Phonetic Alphabet (ICAO)
This album of digital flashcards and quizzes makes easy memorising of the ICAO phonetic alphabet* — the most widely used system for clear communication over the phone or radio.
What is it for?
If the voice channel is unstable or noisy, the recipient of the information may misinterpret the transmitted sounds. To avoid misunderstandings — which can be critical— so-called phonetic alphabets have been developed. In them, each letter is transmitted by a code word, for example, "Andrew" for "A", "Boris" for "B", and so on.
During the early days of commercial aviation, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) researched and selected words that are clear and distinct when transmitted, and that are easy to pronounce by speakers of different languages. “Alpha” for “A”, “Bravo” for “B”, and so on. You should have heard it, for example, in films like Top Gun or Transformers.
It’s a valuable resource for anyone who wants to be prepared for any situation. Essential for military personnel, first responders, and others who face critical situations. A perfect gift for children who dream of such professions!
*Also known as “spelling alphabet” or “NATO alphabet”.
